Had a nice chat with my grandfather, Cmdr. Charles W. Daly, Jr., on this Veteran’s Day. He was active duty in the Navy from 1945 to 1973, a veteran of both WWII and Korea. I’m very lucky to be able to talk to somebody about their experiences in World War II first hand!!
I’ve been thinking a lot about my other grandfather, Karl H. Ruben, also a veteran, who would have been 88 tomorrow! At the end of WWII, he worked for the Allies translating letters from the Nazis for the Nuremberg trials. He was later drafted (after being in America for less than six months!) and served as a military education instructor during Korea at Ft. Custer.
It’s so important to remember the people who provided us with the freedom we have today. I’m so lucky to still have three of my grandparents around. Give yours a call if you are lucky too.
Happy Veterans Day! 🇺🇸
